If you have been following me on social media, you would have seen about my trip to Canada.  While John was climbing Denali in Alaska, me and the little one went off to visit some family in Vancouver and spent time exploring this amazing city. While we were there, Canada celebrated its 150th birthday.  On the 1st of July, there were celebrations and flags every where.  It was amazing.

My favourite cousin lives there, so it was a wonderful opportunity to spend time with him.   John planned on completing his climbs and then fly out to Vancouver as well to spend some family time in Canada.

Whisky and Royal Ashton Cheese pairing

In 1993, quotas was imposed on milk production and this forced Eckhard Leicher from La Montanara to look for a new way of selling the surplus milk. He attended a cheese making course and started making cheese on a small-scale. In 1999, the cheesery was upgraded and today the cheese making business has taken over from  farming.

La Montanara is situated at the foot of the Langeberg mountains, between Ashton and Swellendam. This region, has a micro climate ideally suited for dairy-farming.

Between the ‘Back to School’ ads and just before the Easter Eggs , there is one of my LEAST favourite “commercial” days – Valentine’s Day. The price of flowers goes up, the price of chocolates and champagne goes up and the shops are filled with red and pink hearts and soppy messages. There is so much pressure! With all this commercial pressure, it feels like we loose the important point of just having fun.   And Valentine’s Day should be fun!
