Whisky Chocolate pairing 2017 Edition

Whisky chocolate pairing 1027 edition header

Welcome 2017!  The end of an old year and a new beginning.  For me, 2017 started with a bang. Or rather the sound of a small firework war as the neighbourhood set off (illegal)  firework after firework.  I stood  on the patio, with a view of the horizon, while watching hundreds of fireworks greet the New Year.  My poor dogs were dozed up on Rescue Remedy and sleeping soundly.  The noisy fireworks woke my 5 yo, who also joined me for the free display. Classic Islay: Laphroaig Quarter Cask

Laphroaig Quarter Cask single malt Whisky

This is one of the bottles that have been in my collection for ages. I keep on drinking it, but never writing about it. It is from one of John’s favourite distilleries. Ardbeg lies lonely, in a small bay off the south coast of Islay. It was once a place of smugglers and illegal distillation. The illicit distillers took advantage of the isolated place and incomparable conditions for whisky production.

Lagavulin Distillers Edition 1994

Lagavulin Distillers Edition 1994 single malt whisky

Its been a while since we last posted. Sometimes life gets in the way of good whisky! Much like the Lagavulin Distillers Edition 1994, time has passed so quickly that I cannot recall where we acquired the bottle, or where the original packaging is! Lagavulin single malts are generally amongst the smokiest to be found. A Scottish Islay whisky, the distillery is one of the three Kildalton distilleries in the south of Islay.  Situated at the picturesque Lagavulin Bay, the distillery officially dates from 1816 when John Jonston and Archibald Campbell constructed two distilleries on site.
