Jameson Triple Triple Marsala Cask Edition Review

Jameson triple triple marsala cask whiskey header
In the past year or two, major whisky brands have increasingly focused on releases designed for cocktails or to attract new drinkers entering the category. Johnnie Walker, for example, launched Johnnie Walker Black Ruby with a clear eye on mixability and contemporary flavour profiles.Jamesonhas responded in its own way with the Triple Triple series, and today the focus is specifically on the Jameson Triple Triple Marsala Cask Edition Irish whiskey.

Jameson needs little introduction. Owned by Irish Distillers, part of Pernod Ricard, it is produced at Midleton Distillery in Co. Cork. Built in 1975 to replace the old Jameson Distillery, Midleton produces single grain and single pot still whiskeys, supplying not only Jameson but also brands such as Spot Whiskeys, Paddy, Powers, and Redbreast.

The Triple Triple Marsala Cask Edition is a limited travel-retail release. “Triple Triple” refers to both the traditional triple distillation and maturation in three cask types: ex-bourbon barrels, ex-Oloroso sherry casks, and hand-selected Marsala wine casks.

These casks are sourced from Sicily, including casks from the respected Florio Winery. The Triple Triple range also includes a Málaga and Chestnut Cask Edition, reinforcing the brand’s appetite for wood innovation.

This experimentation mirrors the success of the Caskmates series, in which Jameson finished whiskey in IPA- and stout-seasoned barrels.

Marsala is a protected DOC fortified wine from Marsala in western Sicily. The Marsala casks contribute apricot, candied apple, raisin, toffee and gentle spice, adding Mediterranean richness to Jameson’s signature smooth profile.

COLOUR: Light gold

REGION: Ireland

ABV: 40%

NOSE: The nose of the Jameson Triple Triple Marsala Cask is bright, sweet, and fruit-forward. There are notes of orchard fruits mixed with orange zest. Subtle notes of banana and vanilla follow, layered with honey and a gentle woody backbone. Soft baking spices, particularly cinnamon and cloves, add warmth, while a light oily nuttiness, reminiscent of toasted nuts, rounds out the aroma.

PALATE: On the palate, the fruity sweetness carries through confidently. Fresh figs, red berries, and orange marmalade bring richness and depth. Classic dessert notes of caramel, vanilla, and a touch of dark chocolate balances everything.

A distinctive nutty oiliness that reminds me of macadamia nuts adds texture, while hints of drying oak, cinnamon, and ginger provide structure. The Triple Triple Marsala Cask has a medium body, but the flavour profile is bold, with a well-balanced mix of sweetness, spice, and oak. It’s an easy-drinking dram, yet more complex than I expected.

FINISH: The finish is medium in length, fading gradually with lingering fruity sweetness, soft oak, and a final touch of warming cinnamon.

RATING: VERY GOOD

Overall, the Jameson Triple Triple Marsala Cask Edition is a sweet, fruity, and elegant Irish whiskey. It offers noticeably more complexity than the standard release while remaining smooth and highly approachable. Water isn’t necessary here; the whiskey is balanced and easy to enjoy neat.

It would also work very well in an Old Fashioned, where its citrus and fruit notes can shine. The Jameson Triple Triple Marsala Cask is a versatile whiskey suited to both newcomers and seasoned whiskey drinkers looking for something a little different. An ideal choice for relaxed summer sipping.

I have spotted this release on Amazon, and it retails at an affordable price. They also have the Chestnut and Málaga Cask Editions. I think these Triple Triple releases make for a fun addition to your drinks trolley. I would love to taste all three side by side to see the difference.
