My bottle of Glen Moray Elgin Classic single malt Scotch whisky was a gift from my brother-in-law. I’d seen this Speyside whisky on shelves for years but had never been tempted to buy a bottle. As often happens with gifted whiskies, it found a home at the back of my whisky shelf where it patiently waited for its turn.
That opportunity finally arrived when I was looking for the perfect whisky to accompany a cheese tasting. During my research, the Glen Moray Elgin Classic kept appearing as a recommended pairing for creamy cheeses. I poured a dram alongside a rich Lancashire cheese, and the combination was outstanding. Better still, the whisky impressed me enough that I found myself reaching for a second glass.

A Brief History of Glen Moray Distillery
The Glen Moray Distillery is located in the heart of Speyside on the banks of the River Lossie in Elgin. Originally established as the West Brewery, the site was converted into a whisky distillery in 1897. Although production stopped in 1910, the distillery was revived around 1920 by the owners of Glenmorangie.
In 2008, ownership passed to French spirits company La Martiniquaise, which also uses Glen Moray whisky in its popular Label 5 blended Scotch.
Today, Glen Moray has earned a reputation for producing approachable, affordable single malts that consistently overdeliver for their price.
The Glen Moray Elgin Classic whisky is aged for an estimated 8 years and aged in oak casks.

COLOUR: It has the colour of light straw.
NOSE: The nose is gentle and welcoming. Soft malt sweetness leads the way, followed by vanilla and light oak. Fresh-cut grass, spring flowers and crisp green apples add freshness, while subtle notes of condensed milk and cinnamon biscuits develop as the whisky opens in the glass.
PALATE: The palate mirrors the nose beautifully. It is smooth, soft and exceptionally easy-drinking from the first sip. Sweet vanilla and orchard fruits are balanced by gentle oak spice and a touch of citrus zest. Nothing dominates; instead, the flavours work together to create a well-balanced Speyside whisky that is both approachable for newcomers and enjoyable for experienced whisky drinkers.
Despite its modest 40% ABV, the Glen Moray Elgin Classic doesn’t feel thin. A few drops of water unlock extra malt sweetness and add a little more depth without upsetting the balance.
FINISH: Medium in length, clean and delicate, leaving behind gentle oak, sweet malt and a lingering touch of spice.

The Glen Moray Elgin Classic proves that outstanding whisky doesn’t have to come with a premium price tag. Smooth, flavourful and remarkably easy to drink, it’s the kind of bottle that’s perfect for relaxed summer evenings, casual gatherings or introducing friends to Speyside single malts.
My brother-in-law clearly knows how to choose a good whisky. This single malt won’t be sitting on my shelf for much longer.
