During my recent trip to Scotland, I picked up several whisky samples from distilleries I had never explored before. One of those was the GlenAllachie 8 year old whisky, a Speyside single malt that had been sitting patiently in my tasting queue. Having finally poured a dram and spent some time with it, I can confidently say it was worth the wait.

Over the holidays I cracked open a bottle of Laphroaig Select single malt Scotch whisky. Created around 2010, this expression takes classic Laphroaig DNA, peated spirit matured in ex-bourbon barrels, and blends it with whisky that has spent time in a variety of other casks.
I love the Talisker 10 year old whisky. It is one of those drams I would happily take to a desert island with me. It is smooth, smoky, comforting and incredibly drinkable. Few whiskies manage to balance coastal character, peat smoke and sweetness as well as Talisker does.
